How To Get Smaller Pores
And not destroy your skin in the process
So you want to get smaller pores? Pores - those little holes on your face whose sole purpose is to ruin every close-up selfie forever. There's a way to get rid of them and it's pretty simple. First let's take a look at what causes large pores to form on the face, typically on the forehead, nose and the part of your cheeks right next to your nose. The causes boil down to genetics, your age, skin type and the products you use or don't use on your face. Products that tend to clog pores, and not cleaning your face properly, will lead to dirty pores and dirty pores look bigger. Here's 3 simple solutions to reduce the size of your pores.
- Use a cleanser with salicylic acid like COSRX's Salicylic Acid Exfoliating Cleanser which helps reduce pore size by keeping them clean and preventing them from getting clogged.
- Exfoliate with a gentle exfoliating method daily. You can use either an enzymatic exfoliator, a scrub or manual exfoliation using a Clarisonic or similar skin exfoliating brush. Choose exfoliators that contain alpha-hydroxy acids AKA by its TLA AHA. Or simply AHA. AHAs include glycolic acid, fruit acid or lactic acid. Exfoliation sloughs off the dead skin, leaving fresh clean skin in its wake. Glycolic acid (derived from sugar cane) is generally the most effective, as its smaller molecular size allows for deeper penetration, but can also be harsh on sensitive skin. If you have sensitive skin, look for lactic acid (derived from milk) or fruit acid (derived from fruit) peels with lower concentrations.
- Monthly or bimonthly peels that contain an AHA as above. Again, glycolic peels are most effective, but can be an irritant on sensitive skin. For sensitive skin types, skin patch test other options between lactic and fruit acids in lower concentrations.
My Tip: Generally AHAs above 7% give the best results, anything below that won't make much of a difference.
Using these 3 steps, you are on your way to smaller pores.
